The Pied Piper Music Store was founded in Huntington, West Virginia in 1967 by brothers Chuck and Larry Levine. At the company's peak it ran five locations across West Virginia and Kentucky. One of those locations was in Ashland. The Tri-State area has been part of this company's history since the beginning, not an afterthought.
In 1991, Music Trades Magazine ranked The Pied Piper the third largest full-line music retailer in the United States. That ranking was built on serving communities exactly like Ashland, Huntington, and the entire Tri-State region for decades.
Today the company operates The Pied Piper of Charleston at 301 RHL Blvd on Corridor G in Charleston, WV, and The Pied Piper Music Store online at thepiedpipermusicstore.com. Chuck Levine's daughter Amy runs both. Same family, same standards, nearly 60 years behind it.
Charleston is about an hour away
From Ashland you are looking at about an hour to our Charleston store. When you get there you will find a 10,000 square foot retail floor with real inventory across every category. Guitars, bass, keyboards, drums, band instruments, pro audio, and a full accessories wall. Every instrument on the floor can be picked up and played before you buy it.
That is the part that matters most. You can try a guitar through an amp, sit at a piano and feel the weighted action, compare two instruments side by side and actually decide what is right for you. Nobody should spend real money on an instrument they have never touched.
Authorized dealer for the brands Tri-State players use
We are an authorized dealer for Fender, Yamaha, Taylor, Takamine, and D'Addario. The Pied Piper of Charleston is the only authorized Fender dealer in the Charleston market. That authorization means the gear is genuine, warranties are valid, and if something needs service after the sale you have a real dealer to call, not a customer service queue.
Repairs and setups
If you are in Ashland or anywhere in the Tri-State and your instrument needs work, bring it to Charleston. We do repairs, professional setups, and restrings in house. A good setup on a guitar you already own is almost always worth doing before you decide you need something new. We service what we sell and most of what we did not.
