Yes, The Pied Piper is Still Here.
If you grew up in Huntington and remember The Pied Piper, you are not imagining it. It was real. Chuck and Larry Levine opened it in 1967 because Huntington deserved a serious music store built by people who actually played. At its peak the company had five locations across West Virginia and Kentucky. In 1991, Music Trades Magazine ranked The Pied Piper the third largest full-line music retailer in the United States. That all started right here in Huntington.
The Huntington storefront is gone. But The Pied Piper is not.
Chuck's daughter Amy runs the company now. The Pied Piper of Charleston has been open on Corridor G since the early 1980s and it is very much alive. 10,000 square feet of instruments, gear, and accessories. Same name. Same family. Same standards. A lot of Huntington players don't know that, and that is exactly why this page exists.
About 45 minutes from Huntington
The Pied Piper of Charleston is at 301 RHL Blvd on Corridor G in Charleston. From Huntington you are looking at about 45 minutes. It is a straightforward drive and when you walk in you will find a 10,000 square foot retail floor with real inventory, staff who play, and instruments you can pick up and try before you buy anything.
If you have been making do with online orders or driving further for gear, you do not have to. We are right there.
What you'll find on the floor
We are an authorized dealer for Fender, Yamaha, Taylor, and Takamine. The Pied Piper of Charleston is the only authorized Fender dealer in the Charleston market, which means every Fender on the wall is genuine, covered by full manufacturer warranty, and backed by a dealer who has been at this for decades.
The floor carries guitars, bass, keyboards and digital pianos, drum kits, band and orchestra instruments, amplifiers, pro audio and PA equipment, and a full accessories wall. Strings, cables, cases, picks, reeds, drumheads. If you need it for a gig, a lesson, or a session, we almost certainly have it. And everything on the floor can be played before you buy it.
Repairs and setups
We do repairs, professional setups, and restrings in house. Bring in whatever you are playing and let us take a look. A proper setup can make a guitar you already own feel like a completely different instrument. We service what we sell and most of what we did not.
