The Pied Piper Was Born in Huntington, WV And We Never Forgot It

The Music Store Huntington Helped Build

In 1967 Chuck and Larry Levine started The Pied Piper from scratch in Huntington, West Virginia. Not with investors. Not with a franchise. From scratch, with knowledge, hard work, and a genuine love for music and the people who make it.

Huntington is where The Pied Piper learned what a music store should be. The community showed up. Musicians of every level, every style, every background walked through those doors. Students became performers. Performers became professionals. Some went on to national tours. Some opened their own stores. Some became the kind of musicians that people in West Virginia still talk about today.

All of them started somewhere. Many of them started at The Pied Piper in Huntington.

From Huntington to the Third Largest Music Retailer in the Nation

By 1991 Music Trades Magazine ranked The Pied Piper the third largest full-line music retailer in the United States. Five locations across West Virginia and Kentucky. A 15,000 square foot music mall. A credential that no other music store in this region has ever matched before or since.

That did not happen in spite of Huntington. It happened because of Huntington. The Tri-State area built The Pied Piper into what it became.

Chuck Levine never forgot that. Neither did his daughter Amy.
