If you sing with a band, lead worship, or need a microphone for the occasional acoustic gig, you probably want something simple: plug it into the PA, get your level, and get on with playing. The Shure PGA58 LC is a wired dynamic vocal microphone with a cardioid pickup pattern and an on/off switch right on the handle. This version comes without an XLR cable, so it makes sense if you already have cables in your gig bag.

Keep your voice out front

In a rehearsal room with drums, amps, and a vocal monitor, mic placement matters. The PGA58 picks up mainly from the front and reduces sound coming in from the sides and rear. Sing into the grille and keep your distance consistent so whoever is running sound has a steadier vocal to work with. It will not fix a badly placed speaker or too much gain, but the cardioid pattern helps you keep unwanted stage sound out of your vocal channel.

The response is tailored for vocals, with a frequency range of 50 Hz to 15 kHz. The metal housing suits a mic that gets packed up after practice and brought back out for the next show. Between sets, the switch gives you a quick way to mute at the mic. Just remember to check it before you start singing again.

What you need to connect it

Use an XLR microphone cable to connect the PGA58 to a compatible mic input on your mixer, PA, or audio interface. The microphone clip is included; the cable is not. If you are putting together your first vocal setup, ask us about a cable and stand so you have what you need when rehearsal starts.
