The Shure SM7B recorded Michael Jackson's Thriller. It is the microphone you see in professional radio stations, recording studios, broadcast booths, and streaming setups around the world. It has been the industry standard for vocal recording and broadcasting since 1973 and the reason is simple. It sounds incredible on virtually every voice. If you have spent any time researching microphones for podcasting, broadcasting, vocal recording, or streaming you already know this mic. If you are just discovering it you are about to understand why everyone keeps talking about it.
The SM7B is a cardioid dynamic microphone which means it picks up sound from directly in front of it and rejects everything else. Background noise, room reflections, computer fan hum, keyboard clicks, air conditioning. All of it stays out of your recording. The built in air suspension shock isolation handles vibrations from your desk or stand without needing an external shock mount. The electromagnetic shielding rejects hum from computer monitors and other electrical interference. The result is clean warm broadcast quality audio that makes your voice sound like it belongs on a professional production because it does.
The switchable bass roll-off and presence boost give you real control over your sound at the source. Roll off the low end to reduce proximity effect when you are close miking. Engage the presence boost to add clarity and intelligibility to your voice. These are the same controls that broadcast engineers have been using for decades to get the best sound out of every voice type and they work exactly as well as they always have.
One important thing to know before you buy. The SM7B is a dynamic microphone with relatively low output and it needs a preamp with plenty of clean gain. At least 60dB. If your audio interface does not have enough gain a Cloudlifter or inline preamp like the FetHead will solve that instantly and inexpensively. Come into either of our locations and we will help you put together the right signal chain so you leave with everything working correctly from day one. XLR cable and mic stand sold separately.
At 439 dollars this is a professional broadcast microphone with a legendary reputation and a track record that speaks for itself. Available at both of our locations. Stop in at The Pied Piper of Charleston in Charleston West Virginia or at The Pied Piper of New Albany in New Albany Ohio near Columbus. We will have it on the shelf and ready for you.
The industry standard. The legendary SM7B. There is a reason everyone uses this mic.
