The 312ce sits in Taylor's 300 Series with all-solid wood construction throughout — solid Sitka spruce top, solid sapele back and sides. Sapele is in the same tonewood family as mahogany but with more pronounced grain figuring and a slightly brighter character. It has a focused midrange and enough projection to work in a room without amplification. Pair it with the spruce top and V-Class bracing and you get a guitar that's both loud and responsive to playing dynamics.

V-Class bracing is the key structural difference between older Taylor designs and this generation of instruments. It stiffens the guitar along its length while adding flexibility across the width, which improves intonation across the entire neck and increases sustain noticeably compared to earlier X-braced Taylors. If you've played older 300 Series guitars, this one sounds more open and in tune with itself.

The ES2 electronics are behind-the-saddle, which means you get a more natural amplified tone than soundhole pickups typically deliver. The Venetian cutaway keeps upper register access comfortable. The ebony fingerboard adds density and sustain at the note level.
