Full koa. Not koa back and sides with a spruce top. Full koa top, back, and sides, and that changes everything about how this guitar sounds and feels under your hands. Hawaiian koa has a midrange presence and a complexity that you have to play to understand. It gets better with age, opens up over years of playing, and rewards the player who commits to it.

The Grand Auditorium body size is Taylor's most versatile shape. It projects well enough for live playing and sits in a mix without fighting other instruments. V-Class bracing gives the notes better intonation up the neck and more sustain on held chords than you get from an X-braced guitar. If you play in open tunings or spend a lot of time above the 12th fret, that matters.

The Builder's Edition details are practical. The carved armrest takes pressure off your forearm during long sessions. The beveled cutaway is more comfortable than a standard cutaway body. The body edges are rolled so nothing digs in. Silent Satin finish keeps handling noise down in the studio. ES2 electronics are reliable and translate the koa sound accurately when you plug in.
