The TRBX304 is the bass we point people to when they want one bass that covers everything. Solid mahogany body, 5-piece maple/mahogany neck, two humbuckers and an active preamp, at a price where most basses are still passive with a volume and tone knob.

How it plays

34" scale with a 38 mm (1.5") nut and a slim 19.5 mm profile at the first fret. It feels quick without feeling thin. All 24 frets are usable because the bolt-on heel is carved down for upper-fret access. The body is sculpted and well balanced, so it sits level on a strap instead of diving toward the floor on a long set.

How it sounds

Two Yamaha M3 ceramic humbuckers mean no single-coil hum under stage lights or next to a computer when you're recording. The real reason to buy this bass is the Performance EQ: a 5-way switch that calls up five different preamp voicings, with active bass and treble knobs on top to fine-tune whichever one you land on. The pickup balance knob blends neck and bridge, so you can go from round and deep to tight and punchy without touching your amp.

Built to stay in tune

The headstock gives each string a straight pull from nut to tuner, which helps it hold pitch. The die-cast bridge is heavy and solid, and it gives you a lot of sustain and room to adjust intonation and string height. Ships with D'Addario EXL170 strings (.045 to .100).

Who it's for

  • Players moving up from a first bass who want active tone and a better neck
  • Working bassists who need a dependable backup or a fly-date bass
  • Guitar players and producers who need one bass that covers rock, funk, worship and pop
  • A gift that a bass player won't outgrow in six months
